To sustain quality marsh area, ornamental plants are not just pretty to look at but are beneficial to wildlife.  Many ornamental will attract insects that are eaten wildlife.  Many of these plant have seed that are liked buy puddle ducks but do not produce an over abundance of seed.

Blue Iris

Iris versicolor

Blue flag's large flowers make it almost unmistakable. They are pale blue to purple flowers and are the only large irises growing wild in Florida. Their leaves are narrow and sword like, and up to 2 1/2 feet long. The leaves are pointed and flattened. They arise fan-like from a single base.  These elegant natives are medium size plants, growing to 2 to 4 feet tall.

Eupatorium perfoliatum

Prefers low, wet soils or swamps.  Has beautiful white blossoms, which bloom in late summer.  Grows 3 to 4 feet tall.

Equistum arvense

Grows 12 to 36 inches tall.  Grows in damp to wet soils.  Has a round stalk with jointed sections.  Mostly ornamental.
